The civil war changes the nation

There has never been a more devastating war to the US. although about 720 thousand died, ever more were subject to bad medical techniques and medicine. the deaths of the nations people forced government to increase their power and authority for the sake of the balance of the nation. the nation was being pulled apart due to the after effects of the war. the north boomed due to the manufacturing of the revolutionary weapons that were created during the war while the south suffered from the devastation the weapons caused to the farmlands. now that the north won the war, the south couldn't use slaves as a cheap source of labor due to the 13th amendment. this caused unrest in some of the southerners such as John Wilkes Booth who decided to assasinate the president. About one-third of the nation went to his funeral to morn. a train took the president from washington to his home town in Illinois. the country celebrated the 4 milion african americans in to the nation's system.
