FDR and the Holocaust

Throughout the holocaust it is known that Franklin D. Roosevelt knew quite well what was going on. The president received many letters about what was going on in Europe at the time. He received cables on Kristallnacht (the night of broken glass), and many other events that occurred.  Many of the Jews wanted to escape the horror of what was to come ahead, but not many countries would except. The dream was to be free in the united states where they wouldn't have to face persecution, but even in what was thought to be a free land, they where rejected. FDR made it incredibly hard for German Jews to come into the United States and receive visas. In addition to that he rejected the immigration of Jews in to the US. The immigration laws enforced in the US did not allow the entrance of the Jews forcing them to go back to Europe where later many of them perished in the death camps. There were many times when FDR would state that these acts of mass murder were not okay and that it must stop, but the only way he thought would stop it is by winning the war. This was not the way to stop this injustice.

  2. I like how you went into great detail, but still made it easy to read. It was interesting how FDR knew what was going on but did nothing to help the jews.
